As summer comes to an end I have a tendency to overbook myself on little adventures that I know I’ll be too lazy to do once the colder weather hits. Since I’m a recent D.C. transplant there’s a ton of undiscovered charm that’s waiting for me. I recently decided to walk through the overgrown green neighborhood of Takoma Park, off the main street, to explore the unique town. Since it was a cooler day and I needed comfortable shoes for the walk, I threw on this medium-weight striped dress and some gold Keds.
If you’re in the area I would definitely recommend checking out the individuality of each home in the neighborhood! And a fun game to play is “name that plant” because there are tons of cool, exotic, and mysterious greens that you wouldn’t expect to find in a D.C. suburb.
P.S. I can’t wait to wear this dress again in the fall with a leather jacket and boots!
The sticky dog days of summer are here causing most of my outdoor adventures to shortly end under the closest AC (#firstworldproblems indeed). Since going naked isn’t an option and I have what I’ve deemed overactive sweat glands, my closet is stocked with pieces that make me look cool even when I’m dripping. Take that, heat wave.
Pro tip: moisture-wicking fabric isn’t just for the gym, which is why I love Uniqlo’s AIRism camisole. Eyelet, lightweight anything is a classy way to let air in without risking decency–here I went with white 5 inch shorts from Target to catch those elusive breezes. I added some color & character to an otherwise all-white ensemble with a loose printed kimono top from H&M to hide the expected stream of sweat down my back and armpits.
But, not going to lie, the iced coffee was the real MVP here.

Mother Nature’s been on some serious mood swings these past few months and doesn’t seem to be ready to show any steady “normalcy” anytime soon. Spring and Fall have always been about layering, but I’m finding myself gravitating for more warmer layer than lighter ones this spring with temperatures in the mid-50s during the day as opposed to the high to mid-60s. With a touristy day planned in D.C., I piled on some texture with pops of color. Feeling oh-so-comfy and looking put together at the same time was the ultimate win. My favorite part was getting to wear a uniquely beautiful scarf that I bought in Nepal a few years ago (which reminds me that I need to go jetsetting soon).

Sometimes your outerwear needs a bit of jazzing up and the universe was hearing that when I scored this faux fur jacket from Zara for $50. I’ve been on the hunt for one for a few years, but I couldn’t bring myself to spend (in my standards) an extravagant amount and I didn’t want one that looked obviously inexpensive. I turned to thrift and second hand stores for a while, but they have a way of never having anything in my size (is every woman in NY between a size 0 and 6??), so I waited it out and I’m so glad that I did! I feel kind of ridiculous and fabulous at the same time with each wear and sometimes that’s just the way fashion goes.
Since this particular jacket sold out pretty quickly, I’ve rounded up my favorite alternatives:

Moral of the story: good things come to those who wait, but once you find the one, jump on it!

On a warmish winter day in the Northeast it’s sometimes extremely difficult for me to figure out how to dress for the weather. Coat or no coat? Tights or bare legs? Long sleeves or sleeveless?
Similar to fall, layering goes a long way when it comes to feeling cozy and weather appropriate. Winter decided to take a break last weekend and hit us with a bit of warmth. Spring is, indeed, in the air. I eventually decided on a sweater dress, a faux leather jacket, and leather over the knee boots for my transitional outfit as I strolled around the city with my boyfriend.
My favorite piece of the getup is the badass Calvin Klein boots that I randomly found these boots on major clearance at a Backstage Macy’s store (sadly, no where on the interwebs has it as cheap). Let me tell you, even though they do not look like it, THESE BOOTS WERE MADE FOR walking, and I spent my Saturday doing just that!
